Voluntary Hazing

Formed in San José, CA, Voluntary Hazing is a fairly large ska and pop-punk band, although they occasionally experiment with disco, acoustic and other alternative sounds.

Their first full-length original record, 'Addictive Little Sounds,' was released on July 19, 2024 and is now streaming everywhere. It's a loose concept album, exploring the effects of modern phone technology and the connections and anxieties that come from that.

Their music is written, recorded, mixed and mastered entirely by members of the band.

They previously released the covers EP 'Nobody Asked for This' and the original EP 'Crossroads.' They've played venues like Programme (Fullerton), Liquid Gravity (San Luis Obispo), Bottom of the Hill (SF), Neck of the Woods (SF), DNA Lounge (SF), 924 Gilman (Berkeley), The Bistro (Hayward), San Pedro Square (SJ), The Game Room (Sonora), Hammer Theatre Lobby (SJ), Camino Brewing Company (SJ) and more.

Their festival appearances include:

-Doll Fest 2026 (headlined by Vial and Bad Cop Bad Cop)

-Davis Music Fest 2025

-Watsonville Strawberry Festival 2025

-Santa Cruz Midtown Friday - August 2025 (opening for Slow Gherkin')

-Maximum Ska n' P 2024

In summer 2026, they'll be embarking on their first New England tour (and it'll also be their first time playing a show outside California). They have been invited to play the Pioneer Valley Ska Festival, and built a tour around that.

The group began as friends in the San José State University marching band. Each member has been classically trained, but they decided to try something different and play rock music with their horns.
